The Louisiana Counseling Association will grant   registration scholarships for attendance at the LCA annual conference from the following two (2) categories:

  • Graduate Students from any of the Louisiana universities (land based or online) serving Louisiana’s counseling students.
  • Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors

Two (2) additional scholarships may be made available at the discretion of the president and/or executive director for professional members with extreme need.

The purpose of awarding scholarships is not only to encourage membership and participation in the association and attendance and participation at the annual conference, but also for the Association to gain needed assistance in conducting and facilitating the conference.

Students and PLPCs

Eligibility:

Graduate Student Applicant must be a current student member of LCA and be currently enrolled in a masters (or doctoral) track of Counseling Program at one of the regionally accredited universities in Louisiana.

Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor of Provisional License Marriage nd Family Therapist Applicants must be PLPC members of LCA and registered with the LPC Board of Examiners.

Expectations:

  • Scholarship applicants should submit the scholarship application by September 8.  (If scholarships are available after this date, applications will continue to be accepted.)
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to provide volunteer service at the LCA conference.  A minimum of 14 hours of volunteer service is expected.
  • Scholarship recipients will work with the Volunteer Chair to decide their schedule

Professional Member Extreme Need Scholarships

In these difficult times, at the discretion of the current president and Executive Director, special requests for professional member registration fee reduction or waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed the cost of two full conference fees per year.  Criteria used may include:

  • Length of membership
  • Length and level of leadership activity with LCA
  • Economic need (job loss, household income reduction, etc.)

To apply, a member must contact the Executive Director (lca_austin@bellsouth.net) and submit a request in the form of a letter addressing the reason for the financial need and citing number of years of continuous LCA membership, offices held in the organization or other LCA leadership activity, and any other situations that they wish to be considered.  Deadline for consideration is six weeks prior to the opening date of the conference.  In exchange for any fee reduction or waiver, the recipient will serve as a conference volunteer for a minimum of 14 hours, which can include conference and pre-conference activities.
